Hundreds of people gathered at the Pennsylvania State Capitol building in Harrisburg on April 20 to protest the state’s COVID-19 stay-at-home order, according to local media. #Coronavirus #COVID19 #CoronavirusUpdates
This video, captured by local reporter Stephen Caruso, shows crowds of protesters calling for the reopening of the state Monday afternoon. One vehicle was towed as a result of improper parking, according to Caruso. The event was organized by several groups, called ReOpen PA, End The Lockdown PA, and Pennsylvanians Against Excessive Quarantine, local media reported.
A stay-at-home order for Pennsylvania is effective at least until April 30, preventing hosting or attending public gatherings. Gov Tom Wolf vetoed legislation to reopen some Pennsylvania businesses on April 16, spurring protesters seeking to return the economy to normal to call for the reopening of the state on the capitol steps.
As of Monday afternoon, the Pennsylvania Department of Health had reported 33,232 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 1,204 deaths.
