Ryutoro Nonomura, 47, a Hyogo Prefectural assemblyman breaks down at a press conference -- bursting into tears, uttering nonsensical phrases and pounding his fists.
The news conference in Kobe followed a newspaper report that raised questions about his use of public money, totalling 3 million yen, to visit the hot springs 106 times last year. Calls are rising for Nonomura to give an explanation.
"I ran for office, for the world?... the world? ... to change the world, and so I gave everything I had to appeal to the public, and the people of Nishinomiya elected me even though I was a stranger to them, and I finally became a lawmaker (starts banging on table)," He shouts in the video.
This intense display of emotion is even more puzzling in traditionally non emotive Japan.
