Here's the step by step instructions to assemble the X-carriage to the y-gantry.
SolidCore CoreXY design. The goal is to have a modular carriage assembly with interchangeable print heads. The carriage was designed to be lightweight but strong and interchangeable. The all-metal design uses "c"-shaped aluminum channels to reduce weight and machine time. The current design mounts to a MGN12-H linear rail but I may experiment with a MGN9 to reduce weight and decrease the footprint which would also increase travel distance.
Y-Axis Linear Guide Design Options
We have plans to reorient the y-axis linear rail into a vertical position to reduce any deflection or sag but the current version will be easier to adapt an E3D Toolchanger. This y-axis linear rail orientation is not necessary but is good design practice.
Balancing the pull to the center of carriage instead above it or below seems to be more rigid and minimize deflection. The belts should run along the same plane as the linear rails depending on pulley and belt brand used. To avoid rocking along the x-axis and belt tensioning issues, keep the belt path as parallel as possible with the x-axis with proper spacers to minimize vertical movement of the idler pulleys.
Belt Anchor And Tensioner
The current carriage design uses M2 tapped holes to mount the y-axis endstop switch and act as a self locking post. For now the motor mount plate has slots to tension the belts.
