This is an application example of Inventor Dynamic simulation application from B&D Manufacturing.
Such mechanisms having standard mechanical joints (revolution, planar, ...) and 3D contacts can be very easily simulated using Inventor Dynamic Simulation feautre.
For this simulation the only defined input is the rotation speed of the spool (which is rotated using a motor in reality). The groved shaft in front is connected to the spool shaft through a reduction gear box. The yellow sub-assembly on the groved shaft has a pin that is being guided by the groove. This synchornises the rotation of the spool with the to and fro motion of the cable guide.
