Adobe Walls is located in the northern end of Texas in an area called the Panhandle. It is about 75 miles northeast of Amarillo. Initially, it was a small trading post which only had a few small building made of adobe, thus the name.
In the second half of the 1864 and 1874, there were two significant battles which took place here. Both battles involved the local American Indian tribes. On the opposing sides were the US Army or buffalo hunters. The first battle was the largest fight between Indians and the US Army during the American Civil War. The second one became legendary because of one of the longest rifle shots to ever take place in the western frontier. It was an accurate shot that was almost 1 mile long - Travels with Phil copyrighted by Phil Konstantin -
