Queen Elizabeth's Halo Tiara 1936
Also Known as The CARTIER Halo Scroll Tiara
Diamonds and Platinum 3 x 18 cm (whole object)
A diamond 'halo' tiara formed as a band of 16 graduated scrolls, set with 739 brilliants and 149 baton diamonds, each scroll divided by a graduated brilliant and with a large brilliant at the centre; original red leather box, with later Garrards label.
First arrived on the scene: 1936 when George VI commissioned Cartier to make it for his wife three weeks before he acceded to the throne.
Who's worn it? The Queen Mother gave it to the Queen as an 18th-birthday present and she has since lent it to Princess Margaret, Anne, Princess Royal, and, most famously, the Duchess of Cambridge, who wore it on her wedding day.
Did you know… It was the Duchess of Cambridge's `something borrowed' for her wedding.
