Does Insuladd Insulating Paint Additive really work? Well I saw many mixed opinions on this so I decided to do my own experiment. My use case is specific, but it is also very telling.
I created a video review to show how the Insuladd product stacks up to just using white paint. In my case I was applying the product on a flat cement roof that was previously coated with a red paint. In theory this additive should be fantastic. It works through reflective (not insulating) properties. The product name (INSULadd INSULATING Paint Additive) just adds confusion to the science behind it. Insulating is something like fiberglass insulation in an attic. It slows the movement of heat (in or out). Reflective would be something more akin to placing the sunshade in your car window. It reflects radiant heat, which keeps your car cooler. This product contains ceramic beads which do not slow the heat, but rather reflect it, thus this is a reflective product.
In repainting my red roof, I chose to repaint it white and reduce the absorbed heat (white has higher reflectivity than red). I also chose to purchase enough Insuladd to treat two layers of paint as recommended. I was hoping for a double impact of reflectivity though the use of white paint and this product.
During the recoating process I decided to do an experiment and record the results. I compared the original paint (red) with white paint and white paint with Insuladd.
