This talk accentuates the importance of helping young become aware of identity through diverse children's literature. Jess Melendez lists various children's books that introduce diversity in race, gender, disability, sexuality, religion, social class, etc. She speaks to how diverse literature makes space for positive developmental impacts on future generations in the classroom and at home. Jess is from Brooklyn, New York. She is a third-year early childhood education major with a specialization in English. In her leisure, she enjoys reading suspense and mystery novels, as well as drawing and painting.
