The UMSC Secretary General Hadji Abaasa Muluubya Ssekiyivu announced the decision on Thursday afternoon shortly after the joint session meeting held at the UMSC headquarters.
According to Muluubya, forty one out of the 47 members of the joint session had voted to impeach Sheikh Ssemambo for contravening the UMSC constitution, when he connived some people to install him as a Mufti.
"Sheikh Ssemambo was duly served and he responded to the petition electronically to the national chairperson," he said.
The joint session comprises members of the UMSC National Executive Committee and Majlis Ulema-the College of Eminent Sheikhs.
