Early age concrete can settle before the mixture sets. This presentation will begin by reviewing the role of settlement on plastic shrinkage cracking. The presentation will then describe the use of neutron radiography to examine how mixture proportioning influences settlement. One directional settlement samples will be compared and contrasted with results from differential settlement testing. The results of the study will be compared and contrasted with common beliefs and specifications.
