(14 Jul 2021) A few dozen people showed up for a rally in Washington, DC in support of Britney Spears urging "Free Britney" and "The conservatorship has got to go."
It's the first rally held by the new Free Britney America group and it was held near the Lincoln Memorial.
They picked the Lincoln memorial because of other significant demonstrations there like the Women's March and Mart Luther King, Jr.s speech.
Part of the group's mission involves trying to get legislators to have a hearing to change conservatorship law.
Cassandra Dumas, co-founder of the group, urged people write letters to their local legislators.
"We're going to be putting together on our website the ability for you to contact your legislators in Congress and Senate. Send them a letter to say this is important to me and we're going to make it really easy for you guys to do so.
Rick Black, Executive Director of Center for Estate Administration Reform, and his wife came out to the protest.
His organization advocates against guardianship abuse.
"We use Britney because of her celebrity because it puts a face and a voice on this because there are thousands, we estimate 10,000 a year of victims who never get talked about in the news," he said.
He added: "This happens to anyone 18 or over: the disabled, the disabled who are destitute, the disabled with wealth, immigrants, women, men, Jews, Christians, Atheists. This is all about greed. They don't care who you are."
