As part of a '2021 update' I've been doing to some older tops, I figured it'd be cool to go back in time a bit, going from 2020 all the way back to 2010 and give detailed tops of what are my favorite and least favorite songs of each year.
Also, please respect my opinion, and if you disagree with me, that's perfectly fine! Instead of throwing imaginary knives, feel free to share which songs are your favorites in the comments!
In 2020, the contest was supposed to be held in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) after Duncan Laurence won the 2019 edition of the contest in Tel Aviv, Israel. The 2020 edition was eventually cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and remains the first and only time we do not have a factual winner. In total, 41 countries were meant to compete this year, which is the same amount as the year before. Two countries, Montenegro and Hungary withdrew from the contest, with Bulgaria and Ukraine making a return.
Most artists that represented their country in 2020 returned the year after, but here's a recap of those who did not.
Albania - Arilena Ara (Fall From The Sky)
Armenia - Athena Manoukian (Chains On You) (Armenia withdrew for 2021)
Belarus - VAL (Da Vidna) (Belarus was meant to be represented by Galasy Zmesta in 2021, but they were banned from competing after having sent in two politically inappropriate songs)
Croatia - Damir Kedzo (Divlji Vjetre)
Cyprus - Sandro (Running)
Denmark - Ben & Tan (Yes!)
Finland - Aksel (Looking Back)
France - Tom Leeb (The Best In Me)
Germany - Ben Dolic (Violent Thing)
Italy - Diodato (Fai Rumore)
Norway - Ulrikke Brandstorp (Attention)
Poland - Alicja Szemplinska (Empires)
Portugal - Elisa (Medo De Sentir)
Russia - Little Big (UNO)
Sweden - The Mamas (Move)
