Thrombocytosis (Primary and Secondary) - Why Is My Platelet Count High? - Hematology.
Thrombocytosis (thrombocythemia) is increased platelet count.
Thrombocytopenia is decreased platelet count.
Normal platelet count is 150,000 to 400,000/ microliter.
Platelet count test is commonly ordered as part of the complete blood count (CBC).
There are 2 types of thrombocytosis: primary and secondary.
Primary thrombocytosis is one of the myeloproliferative disorders, which I have talked about during my series on hematology [ Ссылка ]
Secondary thrombocytosis is secondary to another disease (e.g. infection or inflammation).
Hemostasis is defined as “cessation of blood bleeding”.
There are 2 types of hemostasis:
1. Primary hemostasis: formation of weak, temporary platelet plug (by platelets).
2. Secondary hemostasis: formation of stronger fibrin meshwork (by coagulation factors).
