Neuschwanstein castle might be the most beautiful, fairytale looking castle in the world. It is the inspiration for Disneyland's sleeping Beauty's castle. People from around the world dream to see soaring towers and turrets of the Bavaria, Germany landmark. But the vast majority of tourists do not get to take the classic picture of the front of Neuschwanstein. There are no trails or paths or viewpoints to get the greatest view.
My first visit to Germany I was very disappointed to not be able to get any pictures of the front. Though you can go on Mary's bridge and along trails that will get you beautiful pictures of the back, the front is definitely the greatest view. So, I was determined to find a way to get this iconic picture.
It's not easy. There was no trail, no signs and no other tourists or even locals. I went the opposite direction of the other tourists getting off the bus from Füssen. I think followed up this waterfall then crossed the river getting my shoes and clothes soaking wet. Then climbed up and extremely steep hill (mountain?). Up, up, up until finally Neuschwanstein's front began coming into view. It's not something I recommend most people do as it could be quite dangerous. But I'm always determined to get the views I want and find a way to do it no matter what. Enjoy!
