D-Day: Charles Durning Tells of his Experiences Landing on the Beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944
The date June 6, 2019 marks the 75th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy beach, generally known as "D-Day." This video is dedicated to my cousin Trudie’s father, George Edward Kerstowske…

He participated in a number of military campaigns during World War II, most notably the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. This invasion, which ultimately led to the defeat of Nazi Germany, was, and still is, known as “D-Day.” Ironically George Kerstowske died exactly 40 years later on June 6, 1984.
I was just 10 months old on D-Day, June 6, 1944, a terrible, costly event that helped to save Western civilization. Had the invasion of Normandy failed who knows what the world would be like today? How do you thank the very young men who were gravely wounded or killed that day or in the days to come? Words, the right words, escape me at this moment but I'd like to thank all the men and women who serve, or have served, in the armed forces of the United States of America. The nation owes you a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid but we won't forget your many sacrifices.
