The Supermarine Spitfire Mk XIV entered service in December 1943. It was powered by the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine which had a two-stage, two-speed supercharger and could produce up to 2,050 hp and could reach speeds over 400 mph in level flight. Using the Type E wing, this Mk XIV carries 2 x 20 mm Hispano Mk II cannons mounted outboard and 2 x 0.50 calibre M2 Browning machine guns mounted inboard.
