The green sea turtle is the most common and abundant sea turtle in Galapagos, and is the only sea turtle species to nest in the archipelago. The species is a frequent sighting on snorkeling and diving trips around the islands. It mainly stays near the coastline and around islands at feeding grounds. The Galapagos green turtle population distinguishes itself from other populations by the color of its carapace, which is darker.
