A surveillance security camera mounted on a South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) water control structure captured video of an unlikely visitor: a Florida panther.
The big cats once roamed the southeastern United States, but only about 100 to 160 adult animals live today in South Florida. Florida panthers are now rarely encountered in the wild.
WHERE: The video was recorded August 31, 2011 about 8 p.m. in western Miami-Dade County on the eastern edge of Everglades National Park.
