Here is Part Two of a two part series of interviews with State Senator Darren Bailey, examining his positions, as he looks to run for Governor. Parts 1 and 2 of the “Public Affairs,” shows were both taped on February 10, 2021 in the Chicago Loop offices of RESIDCO
In Part 2 of Jeff Berkowitz questions Sen Bailey on his efforts to restrain Governor Pritzker (D) from shutting down the state’s economy and education, claiming that was not justified by Covid concerns.
Bailey also asserts Gov Pritzker has pushed K-12 “Cultural Learning Standards,” on our schools without legislative approval, claiming the standards will impair education tremendously.
Bailey values life and wants “a conversation” about greater restrictions on abortion of entirely healthy babies prior to their birth.

The above video is Part 2 of Jeff Berkowitz’s Public Affairs’ interview with one of four likely or announced 2022 IL GOP GOV candidates- State Senator and farmer Darren Bailey.
You can also watch the two-part interviews posted herein with likely or actual GOP GOV primary candidates: ditchdigger CEO Gary Rabine, legal plumber Richard Porter and soon to be interviewed, former senator and Marine Vet Paul Schimpf.
Our discussion in Part 2 of our interview with Sen. Bailey, who farms 12,000 acres in downstate IL focuses on:
(1) Senator Bailey’s efforts to block the Governor in Court from exceeding his “Constitutional authority” to issue emergency orders to shut down the IL economy.
(2) Soon to be Gov candidate Bailey claims Covid19 is primarily a danger to the elderly with pre-existing conditions, such as asthma, other severe respiratory conditions and morbid obesity. Therefore, says Bailey, it was unnecessary, in large part, for those under 60 and without pre-existing conditions to avoid the workplace and for kids not to receive in-person education.
(3) Bailey also argues it is an exaggeration to say that almost 20,000 people in Illinois have died because of Covid; he says it is more accurate to say they died “With Covid.”
(4) Senator Bailey’s priorities for Covid vaccination, were he Gov would be to follow the data and vaccinate first those in nursing homes and long-term care, as well as those who are elderly with pre-existing conditions.
(5) Bailey says Governor Pritzker is not following those priorities, instead giving the vaccine to relatively young teachers, prisoners and politicians, all who have little danger from Covid, if they were to contract the disease. He says the Governor must be following those public policies to dispense political favors or out of “Pure ignorance.”
(6) Bailey asserts that most schools and work places that are staying shut now are doing so from fear of lawsuits by government agencies at the direction of Governor Pritzker.
(7) Farmer and Senator Bailey claims the Governor’s Illinois State Board of Education is now using JCAR to bypass the IL legislature and issue “Cultural Learning Standards.”
(8) Those standards, says Bailey, on threat of failing to certify new teachers or revoking the license of existing teachers, shifts control of education away from local school boards to the State, diminishing the quality of K-12 IL education greatly, teaching students, many say, not how to think, but “What to think.”
(9) Senator Bailey asserts that competition is good and says that he and people across the State like charter schools and would benefit from such competition for their local, traditional neighborhood schools. Bailey also likes voucher schools, where money follows those students whose parents choose to transfer their kids from traditional neighborhood schools to private schools.
(10) Senator Bailey thinks we should protect the unborn and have a conversation in IL about restricting abortions of perfectly healthy embryos more than we do. He would have a conversation about it, but as of now, he would not permit victims of rape or incest to have an abortion. He would however, always allow an abortion “To protect the life of the mother.”
It seems very likely that Senator Bailey, who was a State Rep for two years from the 109th House District, will announce his run for Governor in a Feb. 22 Effingham rally- and likely follow-up bus tour around much of the State.
Part 2 of our Gov Candidate Bailey interview airs around the State during the week of Feb 21-28, 2021.
