Some details of the components of the mast raising system for our F24 Trimaran.
Comments:
1. We use the spinnaker halyard for lifting and lowering. We clip the trailer strap onto a bowline tied in the halyard. The bitter end of the halyard is secured on a horn cleat on the mast.
2. There are permanently installed shrouds attached to the mast below the spreaders where prevent lateral swaying of the mast when it's more horizontal than vertical. We call the two shrouds "lateral mast stabilizing wires"
3. There are three wires attached to the end of the gin pole to a) provide good angles for lifting b) prevent the mast from rolling on it's axis, and last but not least c) hold the pole perpendicular to the mast.
4. The gin pole is short enough that it never hits the forestay.
5 We control the furler by tying it to the lifting strap with a short loop. A loop about about 12" long works very well. That's the distance from the roller at the bow of the boat and the forestay attachment point.
5. When raising the mast, we place the furler in the "Y" at the end of the gin pole. When lowering, the furler automatically drops into the "Y".
