For our specialty dance this session, we decided to break out (pun intended) the most old school Hip Hop style there is, Rocking. At first known as Uprocking, the Brooklyn Rock or just Rocking, NY B-boys back in the 1970s started to adapt the style from what was usually done in pairs or groups, to a solo set and rebranded it as Toprocking. As the style and skills of the B-boys/B-girls evolved, serious floor technique in the form of power moves, spins and intricate footwork started being included which led to the form that most people now think of when they refer to Breaking..
We wanted to let our students get a taste of what made Hip Hop dance what it is today and dip their toes in the waters of Rocking. We kept most of it above the ground but still allowed for a few drops and a bit of footwork to let them see how the style grew from the rhythmic above-the-floor movements to the powerful down-on-the-floor groove that B-boying is known for today.
If you haven't seen it yet, check out the video to this track which is filled from opening to closing with highly skilled Breakers showing off why the style is so international loved over 40 years later. ([ Ссылка ])
