Fishaholic brings you episode 2 of Sweet Potato Guppy Tank setup which offers free filtration by absorbing Nitrates and other harmful byproducts produced by fish and excessive food. No CO2 and No Fertilizer is required to grow this sweet potato plant in the fish tank. I bought a bag of sweet potato from Coles and kept one for my guppy tank setup. Ever since sweet potato started to grow in the fish tank, it helped me in minimizing the amount of waters changes. Hopefully there will be a time when no water changes would be required in the fish tank.
Adding non-aquatic plants to the fish tank turns it into hydroponics aquarium. I do have an internal sump filter in the fish tank but now i am thinking of removing that and let my sweet potato plant do free nitrates filtration of the tank. Guppy fish have been really happy since i have introduced this plant because it has developed a really healthy root system. Dense roots of sweet potato in the aquarium offers heaps of hiding places for stress fish and fry to settle down and relax.
Once the root system spreads across this 3 feet aquarium then i won't need any aquatic plants in the tank. I won't need any breeder box for the fry as there would be enough space for them to hide and grow bigger. Which is a good solution to keep adult guppies from eating their fry.
I hope you would enjoy this video, if you want to learn how i added this sweet potato plant in the fish tank then please watch episode 1.
