The Wünsdorf shooting range in Brandenburg, Germany with its meter-high bullet trap walls was once part of one of the largest military areas in Germany. Created for the Prussian infantry shooting school of the German Empire, the area was part of the area of the Armed Forces High Command (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, OKW) during World War II and belonged to the headquarters of the Soviet Armed Forces group in Germany from 1953 to 1994.
Located unused in the forest, the old bullet catches are slowly becoming part of nature again. The site is part of the list of monuments of the state of Brandenburg - but nobody is interested in this memorial to the military training of several social epochs. For a while there was anger about the reuse of parts of the facility as a shooting range and for hunting parcours - the noise was not to be expected of the residents, the safety was endangered ...
Today the knocking of the great spotted woodpecker is the only sound, trees grow on the old firing ranges, and the remains of ammunition of many calibres are rusting and slowly turning to dust again.
