Braedon heads out to the Salton Sea of California to test out some Fujifilm Provia and Velvia slide film. Slide film can also be referred to as color positive film, chrome, or E6, which is the chemicals used for developing slide film.
Some things to note about slide film vs negative film. It is very, very precise. Meaning you have to nail your exposure or you will lose details in your shadows or highlights very quickly. But when you do nail your exposure, the details within the film are astounding.
Fuji Provia is the more neutral, true to what you see sort of film. Meaning that it renders scenes with color tonalities very similar to what we see with our eye. Velvia, on the other hand, has more saturation to it's colors. These two film stocks were the most widely shot by landscape photographers for the reasons just mentioned.
This video gives some side by side comparisons of the two films to see for yourself.
We'd love to know what you think and which stock you prefer.
Would you shoot slide film? Why or why not and when if so?
