Durant la pandémie de COVID-19, l’Opéra, contraint de cesser son activité, a souhaité mettre en lumière le travail d’un artiste engagé, qui s’est attaché à rendre compte de cette crise qui a bouleversé notre société. La 3e Scène a ainsi donné carte blanche au photographe Antoine d’Agata. Dès l’annonce du confinement, et durant toute la durée de celui-ci, le photographe a arpenté les rues et les hôpitaux de différentes villes de France pour témoigner de la crise sanitaire et politique et de ses conséquences. Avec son appareil thermographique, qui ne capte que les ondes de chaleur, les êtres deviennent des halos lumineux et solitaires dans des décors contrastés, tantôt errant ou dormant dans les rues, tantôt prostrés dans les lits d’hôpitaux. Au fil des clichés, Antoine d’Agata révèle la vulnérabilité des êtres frappés par la maladie, ou abandonnés aux allées désertées. Le photographe dénonce une société qui perd pied en laissant son humanité à la rue, transformant son engagement photographique en combat politique.

Forced to close its doors during the pandemic, the Paris Opera wished to highlight the work of a committed artist who chose to show how this crisis impacts our society. The 3e Scène gave free reins to photographer Antoine d’Agata. In the early days of French lockdown, and throughout this difficult time, d’Agata strode along the streets and the hospitals in various French cities to expose this sanitary and political crisis, and its consequences. Through the eyes of his thermal camera, that detects only waves of heat, beings become bright and solitary halos lost in contrasted decors, either wandering or sleeping on the streets, even prostrate in hospitals’ beds. Over his pictures, Antoine d’Agata reveals the weakness of the people stricken by the virus or abandoned in the deserted streets. Transforming his commitment as a photographer into a political fight, the artist exposes an overwhelmed society that leaves its humanity lying on the streets.
