" Lik' "

Meet " Lik' ", a King Vulture who was born under very special care in the Xcaret Aviary, where more than 1,500 specimens per year.

Lik', who's name from a Mayan origin means "Air", was born weighing only 0.25 pounds, and within a month he was giving his first steps.

At 6 years old he will reach maturity, weighing almost 9 pounds.

For Mayans, King Vulture was considered a god, and had a special place in their worldview.

It is a species listed as endangered in Mexico and is subject to special protection for its conservation and recovery.

At Xcaret, we complete 25 years developing breeding and conservation programs, including the King Vulture conservation program.
