The Rock of Cashel, located on a magnificent outcrop of limestone in the Golden Vale, is famous for having the most impressive cluster of medieval buildings in Ireland.A round tower, a high cross, a Romanesque chapel, a Gothic cathedral, an abbey, the Hall of the Vicars Choral, and a fifteenth-century Tower House are among the monuments to be discovered.Originally the seat of the Munster kings, St. Patrick is said to have come here to
convert King Aenghus to Christianity.In 978, Brian Boru was crowned High King and made Cashel his capital. The oldest remaining structure on the Rock is a 12th-century round tower, which also houses a high cross and the ruins of a Romanesque church.'Cormac's Chapel' is one of the earliest and most beautiful Romanesque churches.
