Amid increasing pressure to do so, the state of Florida named nursing homes and assisted living facilities experiencing outbreaks of COVID-19 coronavirus.
Gov. Ron DeSantis during a news conference Saturday announced the state would make the change in how it reports cases to the public. There are currently 1,694 cases in residents or staff at long-term facilities statewide, according to the Florida Department of Health.
Pinellas County has the most long-term care facilities affected by the coronavirus, with 25 facilities named. One facility in particular, The Inn at Freedom Square, has been dealing with a particularly bad outbreak as three people have died and at least 36 others tested positive for coronavirus.
