Anthiyur cattle fair to begin on August 8
Anthiyur cattle fair from August 8 to 12.
Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, managing trustee of SKCRF, told that five native breeds of cattle namely Kangayam, Bargur, Amrithamahal, Hallikar and Alambadi would be displayed at this year’s edition of Anthiyur cattle fair, which was traditionally held on the sidelines of Anthiyur Gurunathasamy temple car festival.
“Besides this, people from various parts of the country will be displaying other native animal species like Kathiwar horses, goat breeds like Jamunappari, Salem Black, Kanniaadu, Tellicherry, Boer and Kodi, and sheep breeds like Mecheri, Ramanathapuram and Madras Red,” he said. The dissemination of options other than chemical fertilisers for raising the fodder crops, to be highlighted at the fair, would help farmers to improve the quality of breeding and come out with a healthier livestock.
