In this episode we explore Australia's 3rd largest island, Kangaroo Island!

We take in the natural beauty of this wildlife Mecca coming into contact with it's Endemic species of Kangaroo, Seal & Sea Lion Colony, Koala's, Gonna's and various abundant birdlife.

We embark on adventures that take us boarding down sand dunes, to the famous Admirals Arch & Remarkable Rocks for an unforgettable Sunset as well as exlploring elaborate sea caves and forests recovering from the devastating 2020 Black Summer Bushfires. We head to the historic Colonial side of the Island before returning to the mainland on our way to Victoria.

Seal Bay - Vivonne Bay 1:39

We arrive onto Kangaroo Island via the SeaLink Ferry from Cape Jervis. On our way to Seal Bay we stop at the Clifford’s Honey Farm, home to the worlds purest breed of Ligurian Honey Bees. We are greeted by Superb Fairy Wrens as we head down to one of Australia’s largest Sea Lion Colonies to get up and close to these aquatic mammals. We head to Vivonne Bay for our camp overnight.

Little Sahara - Western KI Caravan Park 7:00

We start the morning with some action, Dune boarding at the Little Sahara Sand Dunes before heading to our Campground at the Western KI Caravan Park. Here we spot several Koalas in the trees around around the site and learn of their threat due to the recent 2020 Black Summer Bushfires. We undertake a lagoon walk stumbling upon many bird species including the Black Swan and Yellow faced Spoonbill along with the island’s endemic species of Kangaroo.

Hanson Bay, Admirals Arch and Remarkable Rocks 13:46

We meet a Rosenbergs Goanna at the tranquil and pristine Hanson Bay before heading out to the Cape du Couedic Lighthouse for a walk down to the famous Admirals Arch, a grand natural archway formed through erosion with a large New Zealand Fur Seal Colony living below. We finish up with potentially the most spectacular sunset of the trip at the unique boulder like structures known as the ‘Remarkable Rocks’. We return to our campsite at night and are awoken by a very strange and frightening sound..

Ravine des Casoars & Cape Borda 24:14

We embark on a hike in the most remote part of the island. Traversing along the Ravine des Casoars we arrive at a remote beach littered with sea caves that we explore. In the afternoon we head to the Cape Borda historic lighthouse and spot a giant Wedge Tail Eagle soaring in a nearby location. Upon our return at dusk we try to avoid the numerous Kangaroo’s on our journey back.

Stokes Bay - Emu Bay 35:41

After a night of Gale Force winds in the rooftop tent we head to the Northern part of Kangaroo island at Stokes Bay. The wind is far too intense here for us to stay overnight so we journey to the Eastern part of the island and stop off at the Emu Bay Lavender Farm. After lunch we rent a small cottage at Discovery Lagoon and spend the afternoon observing the wetlands birds and horses on the property.

Kingscote 38:44

We check out the historic Reeves Point settlement in Kingscote learning about the early European Colonisation of the island before having lunch and beer at the Kangaroo Island Brewery.

Victor Harbor - Coorong National Park 40:45

We arrive back on the Australian mainland and take a small stop at Victor Harbor to check out the old Harbor town and local Markets. Afterwards we journey to Coorong National Park to view the wetlands wildlife and salt lakes of the area, learning of the Chinese migration history of the gold mining era. We finish up the evening at Wills Beach Shack where we are greeted by Shingleback Lizards and have a campfire dinner.

Stopping at the Blue Lake in Mt Gambier we cross the border into Victoria venturing along the world famous Great Ocean Road with its 12 Apostles formations.

We explore the ancient rainforests and redwoods of Great Otway National Park meeting local wildlife along the way including Koalas and Echidnas.

We arrive in the Culture capital of Melbourne checking out the sights and good food before heading up into the Yarra Valley and Victorian Highlands via the Black Spur drive on our way to the NSW border.
