Cheap Ebay Chinese Diesel Heater Review | Camper Van Diesel Night Heater Review & Fitting | | 010
In this Ford Transit Camper Van Conversion episode, I fit a cheap diesel heater in my Transit Minibus.
Here's what I used in this video:

I did quite a bit of research on these cheap ebay diesel heaters and looking at the adverts there seemed to be a lot of choices. However, when you cut through the marketing clutter they all seemed to be very similar night heaters. The main difference seems to be either a self-contained unit or a diesel heater that has a separate fuel tank. There does seem to be 8000kw and 5000kw mentioned in the adverts, but I don’t think there is any real difference between them. I decided to use the self-contained Chinese diesel heater unit with the daft idea that I may be able to use it elsewhere too, which now seems unlikely. Having installed it and used it a bit I still think that I would buy the same type. It is definitely a lot less messy to fit.
I tested the ebay diesel heater first, in my garage and I had an issue that the instructions did not show my type of control panel. I contacted the ebay seller who sent me the correct instructions straight away. Most of the ebay adverts seem to use the same images which show the same control panel which is different to mine. Judging by all of the other control layouts shown in the instruction manual I suspect these panels are changed frequently and it is potluck which one you get.
To be honest, there isn’t much to know, and I suspect that they are all very similar, so I suspect this Chinese diesel heater review applies to pretty much all of the cheap nightheaters AKA parking heaters you can pick up online.
Basically you have a knob that turns to change settings and presses in as well for on and off. So you press it in for a couple of seconds to either start it or stop it, and you rotate it to change the heat it puts out. The other buttons change the display to show you either, heat setting, internal temperature, external temperature etc.
The remote is very simple, just on, off, more heat or less heat and works fine.
The heat seems to be controlled by the speed of the pump, which you can hear clicking away. It is relatively noisy, the fan is like any fan heater, and the pump is very distinct. I actually find it rather comforting when it is running and keeping you warm :)
Installation was quite easy once I decided where to put it. Deciding where to put it was quite a task because the exhaust needs to go through the floor in a place that doesn’t interfere with anything else. The exhaust does get hot, so it can not be near anything that would be damaged by heat. I put some exhaust wrap around the pipe where it goes through the floor so that heat doesn’t transfer into the floor and cause a problem with the flooring.
We have used it a few times now. I don't think we would leave it switched on while we slept, or while the van was empty. I would buy the same one again, I haven’t found any problem with it at all, apart from the lack of control instructions at first.
