Russian President Vladimir Putin took a wintry dip in a pool on Tuesday as part of the Orthodox Epiphany ceremony.
Russian Orthodox believers across the country took part in the Epiphany tradition, dipping themselves into icy waters to symbolise cleansing themselves of sin.
Despite the surge of coronavirus cases, many Russians gathered throughout the night across the country to dip into freezing water.
Russia's total of over 3.5 million reported infections remains the fourth largest caseload in the world.
Russia has also reported 65,059 virus-related deaths.
Nevertheless, Russian authorities have rejected the idea of another nationwide lockdown or any widespread closures of businesses.
