Guinea-worm disease is the first human parasitic disease targeted for eradication, without the use of medicines or vaccines.
From an estimated 3.5 million cases in the mid-1980s, there were only 28 human cases reported from 3 countries in 2018.
However, last mile challenges are impeding eradication efforts and global support is needed more than ever to wipe out this age-old disease.
