I was really happy when I went to Bordeaux last May. Most spectacular wines were created in this region. After driving through France for 12 hours, my anticipation was limited by the fact that my navigation system led me only to the eastern banks of the Gironde. I had simply forgot to turn off the „avoid ferry function“. Well, for the next time….Anyhow, my first stop led me to Château Pontet-Canet, in the famous appellation Pauillac.
The Château is following the biodynamic approach in the vineyards and belongs today to the most searched-after wineries, not only because they received glorious 100 points by Robert Parker. The quality and the minerality are immense.
In this video I talk with Jean-Michel Comme, the technical director. We discuss and taste the vintage 2011 vintage. Let´s give it a try! (October 07. 2012)
FEATURED WINES
CHÂTEAU PONTET-CANET 2011
Country: France
Wine region: Bordeaux
Vintage: 2011
Classification: A.O.C. Pauillac
Variety: Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet franc, Petit verdot
Composed of Cabernet sauvignon 60%, Merlot 35%, Cabernet franc 3% and Petit verdot 2%.Dark garnet-red colored with a sophisticated transparency. The nose was somehow shy while tasting it , but the wine compensates the palate with an impact of cassis and blackberries. Juicy and refreshing acidity with high-quality but still dusty tannins. There´s this unbelievable and superficial minerality. Mad things are going on here! Medium-bodied and a long finish. A compact wine. Best from 2016 until 2035 (October 2012). 95 PS
