Another Star Timelapse using the GoPro HERO4's Nightlapse Mode. The plan was to try to capture the Aurora Australis event. The Aurora watch website said that there was a possible chance of an event occurring (level of 6, although a 9 would have been much better), so I went for a hike up to the top of Jillamatong Hill (Elevation approx 1200m) just on dark and set the cameras up to nightlapse all night. I had a Wasabi Battery Bacpac on the back of my GoPro HERO4 Black Edition camera, plus a 6400mAh Power Bank to provide enough Juice,Then I went home to bed.
The next morning at 5.30am, I hiked back up again to retrieve my cameras and was rewarded with one of the most glorious sunrises. Except that it was in the opposite direction to the way the cameras were pointing.
The moon had been out for the first half of the night, which is why the landscape is so bright and once the moon set, it went very dark and the Milky Way could be seen.
Settings used:
Nightlapse Mode
Shutter = 30 second
Interval = Continuos
Megapixels = 12MP W
Spot Meter = OFF
Prtune = ON
White Balance = 3000K
Color Profile = Flat
ISO Limit = 800
Sharpness = High
EV Compensation = N/A
Timelapse compiled, de-fisheyed and converted to 16:9 in GoPro Studio, then imported into Sony Vegas Movie Studio.
I'm still playing around with settings and best methods for creating these sequences but I am still fairly happy with the results. It's pretty cool that you can do this with a camera that's not a DSLR.
Thank you for watching.
