The original version of this song done by a group called the "Replacements" and dates back to 1984. Given the lyrics, I am actually shocked that I didn't know of this song before very recently. The song can be summed up as a rather funny and delightful protest of societal gender expectations. That had to be rather cutting edge topic in 1984 because it is unfortunately highly controversial even now. In this 2015 cover featuring Miley Cyrus, Joan Jett and transgender star Laura Jane Grace, this song is pure fun to dance to.
This is the very first time I have formerly danced in about 3 months, although I have been wiggling around the house almost everyday. I knew that when I started dancing again that my dancing would evolve into a more subtle and nuanced style, and yes I can see some of that in this video. For the production end of this video I tried a few new things. Some of them worked well, and some less so, but as a whole I am pleased with the look.
