Within 10 years of ACL injury, about half of young athletes develop knee osteoarthritis (OA), a disabling condition typically seen in old people who have knee pain, swelling and stiffness making it difficult or impossible to walk. This new clinical trial, led by Stanford Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon Dr. Constance Chu, seeks to treat patients within a few days of ACL tear to find a way to prevent OA from forming.
