Andrew J. Haig, M.D. is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed his specialty training at Northwestern University's Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and the American Board of Pain Medicine. He has been on the faculty of the University of Vermont and continues as volunteer associate professor at The Medical College of Wisconsin in addition to his current role at Michigan.
Dr. Haig's clinical work at Michigan is focused on spinal disorders and electrodiagnostic testing, however he has a broad experience in areas from sports medicine to pediatric rehabilitation as medical director of an inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation program. His expertise has been recognized by 3 national "best doctor' lists, and in 2008 he received the AAPMR's 2008 Distinguished Clinician Award.
As an educator, Dr. Haig founded the University of Michigan Spine Fellowship, which, during his tenure, was considered one of the best in the country. His students, residents, and fellows have received dozens of awards for work under his direction. He is on the editorial board of five medical journals and is editor of a textbook on back pain published by The American College of Physicians. He has given over 150 invited lectures throughout the world, including an extended visiting professorship at The University of Vienna, and works with major news organizations and medical societies on media relations. His work has been acknowledged with the UMDNJ national teaching award for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
As an administrator and leadership consultant, Dr. Haig developed an award-winning inpatient rehabilitation program and an occupational medicine program in Wisconsin and was the founding director of the University of Michigan's internationally known Spine Program. He has been a consultant to foreign governments, global corporations, universities, and health care systems. Dr. Haig teaches leadership to corporate executives with Noel Tichy, Ph.D. in the University of Michigan School of Business's Global Leadership program. Director of Michigan's Global Leadership in Medical Rehabilitation Program, he is the founding president of the International Rehabilitation Forum, a not-for-profit consortium with over 20 major academic partners. His Rehabilitation Team Assessments LLC has built programs designed educational video games and consulted with insurers on program development.
