STORYLINE
US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton arrived in Haiti on Saturday for the first look by a top US official at the devastation caused by Tuesday''s earthquake.
Clinton arrived at Port-au-Prince in a US Coast Guard plane also carrying bottled water, packaged food, soap and other supplies.
Clinton, who was due to meet with Haitian President Rene Preval at the airport, told reporters on Saturday that she is there to make sure the US is doing all it can for the disaster.
The Red Cross has estimated that at least 45-50 thousand people were killed in Tuesday''s earthquake.
However Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive told The Associated Press on Friday that Haiti''s government has already recovered 20-thousand bodies - not counting those recovered by independent agencies or relatives themselves.
He said a death toll from the quake of 100-thousand people was "probably a minimum estimate."
About 4,200 US military personnel are operating within Haiti or from Navy and Coast Guard vessels offshore, according to officials and another 6,300 personnel were expected to arrive by Monday to help.
Clinton planned to ferry 50 US citizens back to the United States upon her departure.
Clinton, who last visited Haiti in April, was accompanied by Rajiv Shah, the US Agency for International Development
administrator who is acting as the top US relief coordinator.
