Japanese duo of Hirose Ryo and Sobue Rin made the "upset" at the opening medal event of the 2023 Winter World University Games and secured the gold medal for Asian nation.

Silver medal went to the US duo of Finn Sweet and Renae Anderson who finished 9.02'' behind the Japanese just ahead of the Norwegian couple of Andreas Kirkeng and Karianne Olsvik Dengerud who beat Polish Mateusz Haratyk and Weronika Kaleta on the finish line.

Top qualifiers from Finland, Verneri Poikonen and Hilla Niemelä, finished in the disappointing 7th place for them.
