CINCINNATI (WKRC) - In the wake of more than 170 heroin overdoses in just six days the city will take steps to fight the epidemic.
The city made an emergency request to the state to buy more than 400 doses of Narcan. The city also wanted to team up with the Talbert House to develop a quick response team for the west side.
The program would reach out to those who overdose to try to get them into treatment. Firefighters on the front lines said something needed to be done.
Lt. David Bahler with Cincinnati Fire said, “We're making 6 or 7 runs at the same time with adjacent companies which then reduces our resources for other emergencies.”
There has been a 30 percent reduction in overdoses since Colerain Township implemented its heroin response team earlier in 2016.
