As of today (April 8, 2014), Microsoft will no longer be supporting their nearly 13-year-old operating system, Windows XP, as well as Microsoft Office 2003. While life must go on and all good things must come to an end, I think that despite its incredible run, it was still too early to end support for the system. About 29% of all computers are still running it, and many businesses, hospitals, and banks are still using the system. But, as of today, those people are now on their own to deal with bugs and security issues. Right now the only options are to upgrade to a newer version of Windows (or switch to Mac OS or Linux), or deal with security threats that will probably appear on XP. There IS a version of XP, Windows Embedded POS 2009, that will still be supported until 2019. I may give that a shot to see if it is worth it for those still clinging to Windows XP.
