It's a blood-donation campaign with a wry sense of humor: Hoxworth Blood Center says it is "out for blood" during The Discovery Channel's 25th annual Shark Week.
The center, a sponsor of Shark Week, will hand out T-shirts with the "Out for Blood" slogan to people who make blood donations Monday through Saturday, Aug. 18.
Because organizers think the event will be popular, they encourage donors to make appointments by calling 513-451-0910 or visiting www.hoxworth.org. But walk-ins are also welcome at any of Hoxworth's eight neighborhood donor centers.
"The summer months often mean increased blood usage and decreased donors," said Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth spokeswoman. "We need all donors to help take a 'bite out of' blood shortages this summer and what better theme to have than Shark Week?"
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati was founded in 1938 and serves 31 hospitals in 17 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 90,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals.
