UCD Earth Institute coffee morning research talk on "Ireland’s trees and woodlands outside the forest: What have we got? What do we want?" by Sophia Meeres (UCD Landscape Architecture), 22 February 2024.
In this talk, Sophia Meeres from Landscape Architecture, School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy discussed Ireland’s national and local ambitions for trees. It starts with the fact that, outside forestry, there is no vision of (or for) Ireland’s trees in either town or countryside. This means that when it comes to trees in towns and cities, woodlands, hedgerows, or farmers fields, we know little about the resource, and even less about what is to become of it. Does that matter? Should we care? And if so, how do we start thinking about and planning for a future tree resource that crosses the urban rural divide?
