President Joe Biden visited the Veterans Affairs hospital in Salt Lake City Thursday morning to commemorate the one-year anniversary of a law expanding health care benefits for veterans.
The PACT Act, which was signed into law exactly one year ago, aims to help veterans who were exposed to burn pits or other toxic substances during their service.
Speaking at an event Thursday at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Biden said the issue is personal for him as his son, Beau, was exposed to burn pits for a year in Iraq and later died of cancer.
“We’re determined to address this problem,” Biden said, “come hell or high water.”
