Understanding the approach pattern is key.
The technique is applied during the game on the blue line (as shown in the video), but practice the drill on the center ice circle (as also shown in the video).
Start at the center ice face off dot.
Skate up the red line to the circle line.
Hit brakes at the line (more like a continuous sliding stop) toes in, your back going away from the "center red line" coast along the circle line, perform 2 cross overs quick or one cross over to make it easy.
you are going to cut off the line curving back to the "center red line" as you cross over (once or twice) then ride one skate (outside skate, riding your inside edge). Your chest should always be facing where the "center red line" meets the circle line.. means being "square with the play"
All of this is shown in the video... to continue...
As you are riding your inside skate blade, you have to dig into the ice with your one skate prior to the "center red line" so you are able to stop at dead center ice face off dot and push off to ride up the "center red line" back to the circle line*, then perform the task again going the opposite way you went the first time, following the same rules.
*for advance technique.. you push off with the one skate you are riding on inside edge and land your other skate and try to ride that skate up the line only (just one skate).
watch video again after reading this (maybe read it a few times) so you can understand better what you are seeing.
