*Contractions (can’t, don’t, should’ve, she’s, etc.) are considered as one word. Some contractions (don’t, she’s, hasn’t, we’ll, etc.) are very common in everyday written English. Other contractions (mustn’t, that’d, that’ll, etc.) are not very common in written English. However, since most Americans use contractions when speaking quickly, all of the sentences in the Ear for English videos use contractions whenever possible.
