This is how I direct sow seeds for pole or vining beans. They can be crammed in densely without competing with each other for nutrients (don't do this for bush beans). I make a trench, sprinkle them in, cover with 1 inch of soil, and water them in. Keep the soil moist until they germinate in about 5 to 10 days. I'm sowing seeds for Rattlesnake pole beans which is one of my personal favorite green beans. It tolerates a wide range of conditions. Plus the plump/large pods have beautiful purple streaks.
