Laos is an unexpected hidden gem that gets lost among its neighbouring countries such as the famous Thailand or Cambodia. I was told by various veteran travellers throughout this journey, that if you want something that is really off the beaten track; if you really want to capture that original, authentic Southeast Asia charm that you want to picture 30 or 40 years ago (while development is creeping up), Laos is one of those countries.
For 16 days, I explored North Laos in December 2019. From the French colonial influences of Luang Prabang, to the rural village surrounded with valleys and mountains in Nong Khiaw, to the party vibe of Vang Vieng and ended at the capital bounded by the Mekong river, Vientiane. Along side with Myanmar, its probably my favourite Southeast Asia country to visit.
