A Proton-M rocket climbed into the night skies over the Baikonur Cosmodrome on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 after making a thundering blastoff from Site 200/39, embarking on a long mission into Geostationary Transfer Orbit, carrying the Ekspress AM-7 communications satellite. Liftoff occurred at 22:05 UTC and marked the start of a nine-hour and 13-minute mission featuring five Briz-M upper stage burns separated by long coast phases. Outfitted with a multi-band payload, Ekspress AM-7 will eventually deliver radio, TV and Internet to Europe, Western Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Separation of the satellite is planned at 7:18 UTC on March 19.
